Jeremy Sudbury Iowa State Classic 2021

Iowa State track and field then-Assistant Coach Jeremy Sudbury looks on at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 12.

Iowa State's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Jeremy Sudbury announced two new staff members will be joining the Cyclones' staff Monday. The recently appointed head coach added Matt Lange and Cale Wallace as assistant coaches, with Lange also serving as a recruiting coordinator.

Lange comes to Ames after having served as an assistant coach at George Washington University for the past two seasons. With the coaching of Lange, steeplechasers Margaret Coogan and Kathryn Nohilly became the first pair of George Washington athletes to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet in the same event.

"I was very impressed with Matt's enthusiasm and communication abilities while I was searching for a recruiting coordinator to help push the envelope in building a Big 12 Championship-caliber program for both genders,” Sudbury said. “His passion for the sport is contagious and will be an important asset for the future of our programs."

Wallace's last coaching job also was as an assistant coach, having served in that role at North Dakota for the past two years. On the cross country course, the Fighting Hawks' men's and women's teams finished third and second respectively at the Summit League Championships this past season.

Sudbury also spoke highly of his expectations for Wallace.

"Cale's experience as an athlete and coach at Arkansas and North Dakota has made him a well-rounded and exciting addition to our staff," he said. "His background in the steeplechase and being a part of many team championships will add to our vision as we continue to strive for success within the Big 12 and on the national level."

Iowa State has not yet released a schedule for the upcoming fall cross country season.
