The Iowa state swimming and diving team had a fantastic start to the 2018 Big 12 Championships. The team was tied for second place after day one with 62 points.

Two swimming relay events started the competition of the conference tournament.

School records were reset by Cyclone swimmers in the first day.

The team of Mary Kate Luddy, Silqi Luo, Haley Ruegemer and Keely Soellner refreshed the Iowa State 800-yard freestyle record with a time of 7:15.61. The team placed fourth in this event.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the all-senior team of Harper Emswiler, Kasey Roberts, Luddy and Laura Miksch placed third and swam a time of 1:40.37, the second-fasted time in school history.

Miksch had an outstanding freestyle split with 21.84

The competition will resume at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Diving events will also begin.
