Clement: Leverage

Donald Trump has expressed an interest in removing Mitch McConnell from Republican leadership and possibly removing him from politics entirely, on the basis that McConnell failed to help him attempt to steal the 2020 election. This presents an interesting power dynamic — to be sure; Trump has a deeply energized base and a great deal of sway over the Republican electorate. However, for all McConnell's faults, he is very good at his job of accomplishing Republican goals and securing large donations for his party. Now that one arm of the party seems to be declaring war on the other, it will be very interesting to see how the Republicans progress from here.
