Make America Hate Again

Collage designed by Olivia Rasmussen through the use of Creative Common images.

On election night, President Donald Trump verbatim tweeted (in a now deleted tweet but can be found here as a screenshot) “We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Poles are closed!”

This is factually incorrect because folks who were in line to vote while their polling location was open are legally allowed to still cast their vote after the designated hours. The key is they were in line while it was open.

Trump then prematurely and baselessly claimed victory around 2 a.m. Nov. 4 while there were still millions of votes that hadn’t been counted. As polling places continuously counted ballots and Trump began losing in certain areas, he declared, like a true fascist, that voting is “so bad for our country” when the votes aren’t in favor of him. Trump, the 45th president of the United States of sore losers, continues to claim the pillar of American democracy — voting — is fraudulent because he lost.

Ignoramus Trump even claimed victory hours before Joe Biden had been declared the next president even though at this time, Trump was losing the popular and electoral vote. He and his team of lawyers are filing lawsuits in states where he arrogantly thought he’d win but ended up losing in. Coincidently, the states he won are not at all being questioned or painted as fraud.

Let’s rewind back to 2016 when Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but Trump won the electoral vote, making him the next president. Anyone leaning left was labeled as a “snowflake” and a “libtard” for criticizing the outdated Electoral College and wanting the rumors of Russian interference rightfully investigated.

Fast forward to the 2020 election between Trump and Biden, where Biden has won the popular vote and the electoral vote, making him the president-elect of the United States. Trump is fallaciously saying the election is rigged and was demanding states to stop counting votes (that were legally cast within the proper timeframes by American citizens) because he lost.

This wildly fascist and un-American rhetoric is reverberating through the skulls of his cult following. Many Conservatives were showing up to polling places and chanting “stop the count!” because they weren't pleased with the results. That’s not how democracy works.

Have they forgotten American values, or do they only embrace those values when it’s convenient for them? Even in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump supporters rallied at the Capitol, including the president of an Iowa State student organization who is calling for Trump supporters to "arm up" because their candidate is being replaced. (If the tweet gets deleted, the screenshot can be found here.)

The only thing fraudulent about this election is self-proclaimed patriots of American liberties demanding that legally cast votes shouldn't get counted if they’re not toward their candidate of choice.

What about law and order? Sniveler Trump and his doltish supporters claim to love law and order but are not following the law and order of a normal presidential election. Calling votes for Biden illegal simply because they're not votes for Trump isn't how that works, again. When a vote gets counted, numbers for that candidate increase. It's not fraud, it's how addition and math work.

The infantile demeanor of Trump and his Klan come as no surprise. Fearmongering and conspiracy theories have been shoved into the defunct brains of his programmed followers, masquerading his tyrannical calls for a totalitarian regime as “saving American democracy.”

It feels humorous that the same sadistic people who spend every obsessed moment of their lives ensuring the suffering of others to “own the libs!” are throwing temper tantrums because of real democracy, due process and math. Unfortunately, there’s no humor in millions of Americans wanting to throw away democracy simply because it isn't turning out in their favor.

It’s staggering that many Republicans would rather participate in blatant voter suppression and intimidation tactics than wait and accept the final results like every election. This is a dangerous and slippery slope into accepting the already present aspects of fascism in Trumpism. “Fascist governments are one-party states led by an authoritarian leader who claims to embody the national will.”

Let us not forget half of America still voted for Trump’s racist, sexist and hateful ideas. Police state crazed citizens of this nation have proven they’d rather amplify the voices of those who glow with glee while beating the backs of people who demand social justice and accountability.

Half of our nation would rather live under an oppressive system of white supremacy than a country based in equality and meaningful change that would better the lives of everyone.

The ridiculous unproven claims of voter fraud and calls to halt the election because votes are being added up for all candidates (like every election) from Trump and his followers is extremely anti-American and shameful.

While Trump worshippers desire authoritarianism, real Americans desire democracy and the freedom to vote.

The intimidation didn’t and won’t stop the people of this nation from sharing their hopeful voices in favor of bettering our nation with leaders who take our democracy seriously.

I did not hear these criticisms from Democrats when Gore demanded a recount in his close race.

And, really, your casual use of fascist marks you as fools. Fascists were socialists. The closest thing to fascists in America are Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, without the militarism and anti-semitism. They both want the government to run everything, which was Mussolini’s dream.

J. T.

I would argue that the closest thing to fascists in America is antifa, because they use intimidation and violence to silence others and to enforce their rule and ideology.

Milty Friedman

I disagree, James. Antifa are anarchists. They spray paint the anarchist symbol everywhere they go. Fascists are violent socialists.

Milty Friedman

I see that you fled the topic, unable to defend Democrat hypocrisy about calling Bush and Trump illegitimate presidents then crying foul when Trump returned the favor. What goes around, comes around. It was fun when you were sending it around but it's not so fun when it is coming back at you, is it?

I regret to inform you that I am not a Republican. That’s your ignorant prejudice talking. Somehow, it seems likely that you view everyone who disagrees with you as “rabid,” huh?

The reason I did not talk about Trump fake news, Qanon, and the alt right is that those were not the topics in this article, which did not address your personal boogey men. I also did not talk about butter nor puppy dogs, New Guinea tribesmen nor hair ribbons, nor rickshaw drivers in Calcutta nor electricity rates in Tibet. Those were not in the article either. Do you see how this focus thing works?

I realize you are driven by the voices in your head, but you might make some effort to address the subject at hand. However, I must note that you are silent about Mafia hit men, gonorrhea, and the Black Death. Using your logic, your silence means you support them, right? For your edification, the fallacy you are employing is the Appeal To Ignorance, of which you are a considerable master.

A rabid republican, who is silent about Trump fake news, who is silent about Qanon fake conspiracy theories and who is silent about alt-right domestic terrorists, criticizes a small town Iowa college student newspaper letter of all things. Talk about a hubristic hypocrite: look to your own Right and its dangerous lies if you want to obsess about lies, which is why America affirmatively fired Trump. The King of Lies could not even win Republican Georgia or Republican Arizona.

Facts and Logic

Wow - reading this I think you should take a step back from politics. I'm not saying this to be mean or anything - I honestly think it might be good for you. Every article I have read written by you is filled with hate and disdain for people who differ from you politically. I understand disagreement and I understand passion for politics but this is rather ridiculous, don't you think?

In this article, you called people who disagree with you as "doltish, defunct, infantile", etc, etc, etc. I'm sure you know people like this, I'm sure we all do. However, classifying approximately half the country as idiots and racists because of politics? Come on, that is ridiculous. Just as others can't fairly make assumptions about you without knowing you, you shouldn't make assumptions about others.

There are many reasons people could have voted for President Trump. Perhaps they like his policies, perhaps they dislike Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Their reasoning doesn't really matter. The point is, what gives you the right to classify them one way or another? Who put you in charge of deciding who is 'good' and who is 'bad' in this country? I thought we support accepting individuals and the different aspects of everyone here. I think we all agree that stereotyping people based on one aspect of them (race, sex, etc.) is unhealthy and unfair. The same thing applies to political affiliation. Is it fair of you to decide someone is a bad person based solely on the fact they voted differently?

As far as the election goes, do you really think that half the country is filled with raging racists and cult-followers? How did Barack Obama get elected (and by a large margin) for 8 years if that is true?

Passion for politics is good, and I think it is vital to our nation. However, idolization of candidates and/or demonization of the followers of candidates is not healthy. Imagine if someone called all Biden/Harris supporters crazed socialists - it would be unfair and wouldn't represent everyone who voted to support them. In the same way, it is unfair to paint everyone who voted for Trump/Pence that way. I know it is unpopular these days, but perhaps considering the Golden Rule would go a long ways here: Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated

J. T.

I don't know why this person is such a prolific writer for the daily. The collage says it all. Clear cut crazy.

Facts and Logic above:

The seditious and treasonous Republicans want to murder and cannibalize their own kind.

And you talk about the "Golden Rule."

On which planet have you been the last 4 years, "NO-Facts and NO Logic?

Milty Friedman

If that silly accusation were true, there would be bodies of Republicans everywhere. The only dead in the streets are black people killed by Black Lives Matter.

"Facts and Logic" hit the nail on the head with his comment. I've been enjoying these opinion pieces in a hilarious and over-the-top kind of way. The graphics always make me laugh. But I think you may want to relax a little bit for your own mental health. I would give you the same advice I gave my friend who was "depressed" for a week after the 2016 election: Step back a little. It's not worth it. Take a break. Meditate.
