On June 17, the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa (ACLU) spoke out about the passage of Senate File 342, which is a bill that would elevate penalties for unlawful protesters and raise qualified immunity for Iowa police officers.

On Thursday, the Iowa Board of Regents met for the first reading of the proposed tuition and fees increase for the 2021-22 academic year at each of the three major Iowa public universities. Student Government leaders from each university were present to comment on the new tuition proposals.

On Wednesday at the Iowa Board of Regents meeting, the Free Speech Committee addressed reviews and updates for free speech components on the major Iowa public campuses. Regent Greta Rouse gave the opening remarks before discussing the proposed agenda items, and she recognized the importance of free speech in university atmospheres.
