Cross Country NCAA

Perez Rotich finishes 65th overall at the NCAA Cross-Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22, 2014.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its preseason poll Tuesday, ranking the ISU women's cross-country team No. 17 in the country.

Iowa State ranks second in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma State, which is ranked No. 8 in the poll.

The Cyclones finished the 2015 season with a 24th-place performance at the NCAA Cross-Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. They will return three of their top five runners from that meet in 2016 — senior Perez Rotich, redshirt junior Erin Hooker and redshirt sophomore Abby Caldwell.

The Cyclones will open their season Friday at the Hawkeye Early Bird Invitational in Iowa City.
