Iowa State women's cross-country runner Grace Gibbons led the Cyclones to a fourth-place finish among eight competitors Friday at the Hawkeye Early Bird Invitational.

Competing in her first collegiate cross-country race in an Iowa State uniform, the redshirt junior finished second overall in a time of 10:20.8.

Gibbons wasn't the only Cyclone runner without any previous collegiate cross-country experience, as her four teammates who competed in the invitational all made their Iowa State women's cross-country debuts as well.

Redshirt freshmen Jasmine Staebler and Erinn Stenman-Fahey placed seventh and 16th, respectively. The team's lone true freshman in the race, Gwynne Wright, finished 31st, followed by redshirt freshman Megan Schott, who finished 46th overall.
