Outside hitter Jess Schaben jumps to hit the ball towards Kansas State during the game at Hilton Coliseum on Oct. 26. The Cyclones won 3-1.

Despite winning its last four regular season games and finishing tied for third in the Big 12 conference standings, Iowa State was left out of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.

The Cyclones finished the season with an overall record of 16-13 and a record of 9-7 in conference play.

Coming into the week, the Cyclones had a rating percentage index (RPI) of 74 and needed an at-large bid to secure a tournament berth, as the Big 12 doesn't have a conference tournament. The last time Iowa State missed the NCAA tournament, head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch was in her first year at Iowa State.

Two Big 12 teams, Texas and Baylor, made the NCAA tournament. The lone team from the state of Iowa to make it was the Northern Iowa Panthers.
