The Iowa state men's cross country team had high hopes going into the Big 12 Championship on Saturday — and they delivered.

The Cyclones finished in second place, behind only Oklahoma State in the conference meet, hosted on Texas Tech University's golf course in Lubbock, Texas.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys came into Saturday winning consecutive championships and the clear favorite. The point total was close though, Cowboys 38 and Cyclones 49.

Thomas Pollard was the first Cyclone to cross the finish line with a time of 25:39.8, which was also the fourth best time overall.

Kevyn Hoyos, Andrew Jordan and Josef Andrews also received Big 12 honors.
