Iowa State senior Jhoanmy Luque competes in the women's long jump at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 9, 2018.

The Iowa State women were highlighted today at the Iowa State Classic by a winning performance from senior leader Jhoanmy Luque. Luque completed her weekend sweep and also moved into the top-5 in NCAA Division I for the season.

“This whole week I was training hard to get better in the triple jump for this weekend,” Luque said. “I wanted to move up in the rankings and I did it. The competition was tough but I was confident in my ability after getting the win yesterday.”

Luque secured the bag this weekend in the long jump and triple jump. The All-American dominated day two by having four best marks of the day. Luque jumped to her season-best 44 (13.41m).

The Cyclones had two top-10 finishes in the shot put as Essence Henderson threw to a score of 45-10 1/2 (13.98m). Henderson’s teammate Keiara Williams threw to a score of 43-5 3/4 (13.25m).

The women’s 800-meter run had three Cyclones running today. In section five, Larkin Chapman finished second with a run of 2:06.97. In section six, both Cyclones finished in the top 10.

Jasmine Staebler finished fifth with a run of 2:05.36. She was followed by her teammate Erinn Stenman-Fahey, who ran herself to seventh with a finish of 2:10.43.

Iowa State will compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational next Saturday in South Bend, Indiana.
