It was a game of boys among men, and in this case, the ISU baseball club had to play the role of the boys as the Des Moines Area Community College took the bigger, faster and stronger role in a trouncing of the Cyclones.

With the regular season ending and playoff baseball under way, it’s about that time to start discussing who will win the end-of-season awards. Cy Young, rookie of the year and, of course, the most valuable player awards are always topics of discussion when the playoffs start.

The ISU club baseball team suffered two conference losses last Saturday to its in-state rival Northern Iowa. The team picked up one conference win and lost its nonconference game against the Panthers (7-5, 4-5 Mid-America Conference North) on Sunday. The scores of the conference games were 9-2 and 12-2 in favor of Northern Iowa and 11-4 in favor of Iowa State. The nonconference game was won by Northern Iowa by a score of 21-17.

Last Friday afternoon, freshman Dillan Dwyer accomplished something that not very many pitchers have a chance to experience in their baseball careers. Dwyer threw a no-hitter against Iowa in a 4-0 victory in game two of a four-game series.
