Protesters will “march for our lives” at multiple locations across the state as a part of larger protests happening in Washington, D.C., on March 24.

These protests are in response to the Florida high-school shooting that killed 17 on Feb. 14 earlier this year.

According to the protest’s website, “On March 24, the kids and families of March for Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington D.C. to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today.”

The Washington, D.C., rally is expected to draw over 500,000 protesters while one of the “sibling rallies,” being held in Des Moines, has had more than 6,500 people register as interested in the event on social media.

The March for Our Lives protests are happening in 13 locations in Iowa as a part of over 800 protests going on across the globe.

These Iowa rallies will be held in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Creston, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Manchester, Muscatine, Oelwein, Sioux City and Waterloo.

While protest schedules vary from city to city, the Des Moines event, happening at the State Capitol, will start at 12:45 p.m. and go until 4 p.m.

These protests are necessary! We don't need too much violence in this world and guns are the label for violence. Even though those diligent people who legally own a gun and a gun permit and they even have one of the best safes for home valuables aren't using them in a bad way, the others who probably don't have them legally, are the problem.
