EDITORIAL: Campustown Court project a good step
|
Coming to Campustown this summer is the first step in revitalizing the student-oriented district as the university, city and Government of the Student body put funding into renovating Campustown Court. We couldn't be happier.
The court is on the corner of Welch Avenue and Chamberlain Street (you know, where the Super Dog stand is). Right now, it's nothing more than a couple tables and a trash can, but with the help of the Student Society of Landscape Architecture that will change. For example, plans include colored concrete resembling a checkerboard - Ames' blue and green on half and Cyclone colors on the other.
The project's planners hope this will help initiate the "one community" effort the university and city have been trying to put together.
Will it work? We don't know. It's hard to tell with just a small section of Campustown getting this improvement, but it's nice to know that these plans are actually being put into action. Whether or not it's a giant game board, this renovation will add a creative aesthetic to a unique community.
