City recovers from flooding; water may still be a danger

The fierce weather that has rocked Ames for the past week temporarily subsided over last weekend, giving the city a chance to repair and take stock. The city was able bring power to most of Ames by Friday night and to clear streets by Saturday afternoon. Workers did not have to deal with major damage to structures and roads. (0) comments

There will be an all day benefit called "Brenna's Hope" for Brenna Pinkerton, of Boone on December 8 at The Venue,1805 Mamie Eisenhower, Boone. Pinkerton is a 12-year old young girl who has a brain tumor. There will be free food, alcohol and 10 live bands from 10:00 a. (0) comments

The denial of tenure for Guillermo Gonzalez, associate professor of physics and astronomy, by both his department and ISU President Gregory Geoffroy has been an ongoing source of contention within the university. On Monday, the Discovery Institute, a pro-intelligent-design organization of which Gonzalez is a fellow, released e-mails revealing that some physics and astronomy department faculty members had identified Gonzalez's research in intelligent design as a factor in denying his tenure. Following a blowout loss at the hands of Drake, the men's basketball team will host Iowa (6-4) on Saturday in hopes of righting the ship - and avoiding being swept by intrastate teams for the second consecutive season. Student, faculty, staff survey suggests Iowa State is great place to learn, work

For those who bothered to respond to a survey earlier this year, most agreed that Iowa State is a great place to learn and work. The Professional and Scientific Professional Development Committee met Thursday afternoon to discuss the results of the University Life Survey and Keep Iowa State Beautiful campaign. (0) comments

A campus walk to coordinate efforts on the issue of fences and cowpaths was put on hold Thursday, as heavy snowfall limited visibility and the effectiveness of the event. Instead of hiking around in the snow, members of the Government of the Student Body, facilities planning and management and the student body all met again to further discuss a future plan of action. Wolford Development Options, developer for the new mall, has failed to meet certain criteria determined in the development agreement two years ago.
