Users can update new social network constantly

The giants of social networking Web sites, Facebook and MySpace, might have some new competition in a recently created service called Twitter. Twitter was created in March 2006 by a 10-person company named Obvious, and it allows everyone to give their own answer to the question, "What are you doing?" The way it works is: After someone sets up a free account, the person can upload a small post to the Web site from their phone, an instant messenger client or the Web site itself to say what they are doing. The Virtual Reality Applications Center unveiled the C6 on Thursday as part of the Emerging Technologies Conference 2007.

Campus escapes floods caused by heavy rains

The ISU campus avoided harsh effects of the past two days' rainfall, and luckily only a handful of places on campus were affected.

Les Lawson, manager of facilities planning and management, said that as of 4 p.m. Thursday, the southeast intramural field and the women's soccer field were completely underwater and Veenker Memorial Golf Course on Stange Road was partially covered.

Final autopsy results released in Bolanos case

The next step in the case of Abel Bolanos' death will be in the hands of Story County Attorney Steven Holmes, and Ames and ISU police officials.

ISU Police Director Jerry Stewart said the case was now primarily in the City of Ames' jurisdiction, and said any decision on possible charges would be made by the county attorney.

City recovers from flooding; water may still be a danger

The fierce weather that has rocked Ames for the past week temporarily subsided over last weekend, giving the city a chance to repair and take stock. The city was able bring power to most of Ames by Friday night and to clear streets by Saturday afternoon. Workers did not have to deal with major damage to structures and roads. (0) comments

Although the school year is wrapping up, members of the Government of the Student Body are discussing things to work on this summer.

"We've got a number of areas we're going to be tackling," said Brian Phillips, GSB president and junior in political science.

Deborah Kolb, the Deloitte Ellen Gabriel Professor for Women and Leadership at the Center for Gender in Organizations in the Simmons School of Management, will discuss women in leadership roles Friday.
