Group hosts event for international students on Fourth of July

A student group on campus is making it easier for international students to celebrate the Fourth of July.
The International Friendship Connection, a student organization sponsored by Cornerstone Church, is hosting a special international student cookout at 6 p.m. Saturday at Brookside Park on Sixth Street. The event costs $2, features food and an international band, and is open to all international students. Vegetarian food will also be provided.
The group also plans to watch a fireworks display at 9 p.m. at the intramural field north of Hilton Coliseum.
Jack Owens, director of International Friendship Connection, said the cookout is one of two major events the group puts on and usually draws 150 – 175 students.
“The cookout lets us connect with them and give them an American cultural experience,” Owens said.
He said the group will teach students about the Fourth of July and will also introduce them to the organization.
