The Ruminant Nutrition building was forced to shut down its power at 9:30 a.m. Monday because of a utility outage, according to an email notification sent out by Facilities Planning and Management.

Randy Larabee, chief electrical engineer with facilities planning and management, said there was a cable in a conduit buried about three feet under the ground that failed.

Because of the blizzard, repairs will have to be put on hold until Tuesday or Wednesday, Larabee said.

Larabee said the problem with the power going out in a building such as the Ruminant Nutrition building is the lowering of the temperature. This problem, however, has been alleviated with the use of a temporary generator.
