Athletic director, coaches will work week without pay

The ISU athletics department announced earlier this month that four members of the department will participate in a furlough. However, instead of taking unpaid leave, they will work for a week without pay.
Athletic director Jamie Pollard, newly hired football coach Paul Rhoads, men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott and women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly — the highest-paid members in the department — will all take paycuts shared by other highly paid university officials.
The combined unpaid week of salaries will save the university about $50,000. The state is withdrawing $7 million in appropriations from the university, in hopes to combat the current economic situation.
“The financial hardships facing our campus and Dr. Geoffroy are very real and extremely challenging,” Pollard said in a press release. “[We] felt that taking a week’s furlough is an appropriate measure, as the institution works dilligently to cover the significant reductions in its operating budget.”
